MIT dream house

One of the most fascinating and controversial buildings of Cambridge is the Stata Center at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the world renown Engineering School of Boston. The architect, Frank Gehry, designed this futuristic building with tilting towers, popping out windows, and reflective aluminum surfaces. Ray and Maria Stata and Bill Gates donated funds for the center. The overall cost of the building was about 280 million dollars.

Frank Gehry has just designed a building on the seafront in Hove, UK (at the bottom of my street. It hasn't got building permission yet though!

>Hi anonymous,

The Stata Center hosts classrooms and lecture rooms, but I have not heard of any dorms.

>Hi Terri

Congratulations for your grandson's acceptance at MIT. What a great accomplishment! You must be very proud!
As as said previously they offer classes, lectures, conferences, a fitness center, and cafes.

Alex, this is quite a picture. I have to confess that, in spite of the fact that I have been in the Boston area since 1971, I have never seen this building! (Of course, I am sure it was built quite recently; do you know when it was built?).
I like the fact that your blog has text in both English and French. That way I can practice my French, besides enjoying the photography.
Looking forward to more photos,

Jose

> Hi Dean,
I've found the new Frank Gehry's project on a website:

Quite inventive and colorful as usual!

> Hi Jose,
Thanks for your nice comment.
Yes, the Stata center is quite recent. The construction started in 2000 and opened to students and staff on March 16, 2004.
