Historical governor elections

Last Tuesday, on November 7th, the state election took place. Although Massachusetts is a "blue state", the governor Mitt Romney was Republican. But Romney decided to withdraw from the governor race to run for president instead. The Democrat Deval Patrick won the elections and made history: he is the first black governor elected in Massachusetts.

Funny how "red" and "blue" have different connotations elsewhere. In Australia, like in the British tradition, blue is the colour of the conservatives and red, the colour of socialism, that of the Labor party - more like the Democrats.

veiled a beautiful projection in the American democracy. it does not remain any more but in France to take example.

En France, on est encore loin d'obtenir des résultats comparables à des postes-clé...On en est encore à s'étonner de voir des présentateurs de télé noirs, ce qui te laisse imaginer le chemin qui reste à parcourir.

Great info with this photo Alex. Like Alice said, here in France there was a big discussion about a black t.v. news presenter! I couldn't believe it. Guess what...he can "read" the news just as good as anybody else! What a surprise for many!

Now, a black governor in Massachusetts must really be something.

And who knows, here in France they may get a woman President. Maybe the world IS changing...

It does seems that are colors are reversed doesn't it? Afterall, communism was always called "red" and not that American Democrat party is akin to communism, but it is closer I suppose than the conservatives (and especially in neocons heads). I am in a very Red state...and it often annoys me...my last vote didn't even count here as it was overwhelmed by the....clears throat. Is there a purple state somewhere (cause, you know, blue + red...ahem)? I would like that.

When I read, "the first black governor," I thought, "wait, we have had a black governor!" So I looked it up....um, nope. I live in Atlanta where we have had many black mayors, etc. so I guess I just had it in my head that we had had a governor who was black. One thing I did find out was that our current governor is the first Republican governer since the 1800's!
