Think before you throw!

No wonder why it’s quite clean along the highways in some areas? This road sign is maybe the answer… Law Enforcement is getting tough on litter and the amount of the fine varies from an area to another and from state to state. For instance, fine could reach up to $2,000 for littering in Nevada, $250 in California, where it's only $70 in Iowa.

Pas étonnant que ce soit si propre le long des autoroutes dans certains endroits! Ce panneau en est peut-être la raison. Les règlements se sont renforcés concernant les ordures et le montant de la contravention varie d’une région à l’autre et d’un état à l’autre. Par exemple, elle peut atteindre $2000 dans le Nevada, $250 en Californie, alors qu’elle n’est que de $70 dans l'Iowa.

Hanging hearts

Two months ago, many trees were dressed up with Christmas lights; now some of them, like here in Winchester, are decorated with hanging colorful quilted hearts to celebrate this coming Valentine's Day. Quite charming isn’t it?

Il y a deux mois, beaucoup d’arbres étaient ornés de guirlandes de Noël, cette fois-ci, pour célébrer la Saint Valentin, certains, comme ici à Winchester, sont décorés de cœurs colorés en quilt. C’est charmant n’est-ce pas ?

A stooped tree

Every time I walk by a tree it is either straight or a little crooked. But here, on Beacon Hill, we found an oddly stooped tree in front of this nice brick house. I’m wondering why this tree is bent that way...

À chaque fois que je passe à côté d’un arbre, il est soit droit soit courbé. Mais sur Beacon Hill, nous avons trouvé un arbre singulièrement bossu devant cette jolie maison en briques. Je me demande ce qui a bien pu courber cet arbre de cette façon...

Walking away from City Hall!

I took this picture just one month after this 10-foot-tall bronze statue was placed outside Boston's Faneuil Hall. Sculptor Pablo Eduardo made this statue to honor Kevin Hagan White, the longest-serving Mayor of Boston from1968 to 1984. One of his big successes of his career was to reopen theQuincy Market in 1976. Kevin White is still alive and is now 77 years old.

J'ai pris cette photo juste un mois après que cette statue de bronze de 3 mètres de haut a été érigée à l'extérieur du Boston Faneuil Hall. Le sculpteur Pablo Eduardo a réalisé cette statue pour honorer Kevin Hagan White, le maire de Boston le plus longtemps en service de 1968 à 1984. Un de ses plus grands succès fut de réouvrir le Quincy market en 1976. Kevin White toujours en vie est âgé de 77 ans.

A Provencal touch

Eric, on January 2, posted a photo of the restaurant, Sel De La Terre (literally translated as “salt of the earth”), 6.018km away from Provence, on the waterfront area of Boston. Not only they offer authentic French cuisine, but they also have delicious pastries in the 'boulangerie" (bakery) at the entrance of the restaurant.

Le 2 janvier dernier, Eric a publié une photo du restaurant, Sel De La Terre (salt of the earth), situé dans le port de Boston, à 6.018km de la Provence. Non seulement ils proposent une authentique cuisine française mais ils ont aussi de délicieuses pâtisseries dans la boulangerie (bakery) à l’entrée du restaurant.

Old State House

Do you remember my previous post with the Massachusetts state house? Well that wasn’t the only state house Massachusetts has had. The building in thefront is the old state house. This building is known as the oldest surviving building in Boston. It was built on the site of the first town house which burned in 1711. There, meetings were held for the exchange economic and the local news. The shiny building in the background is known as the Exchange Place. Its construction ended in 1984 and rises up to 510 feet, ranking it the 12th highest building in Boston.

Vous souvenez vous de mon sujet sur la state house du Massachusetts? Et bien, ce n’était pas la seule state house que le Massachusetts ait eu. Le bâtiment devant est l’ancienne state house. Ce bâtiment est connu pour être la plus ancienne construction de Boston. Il a été construit à l’emplacement de la première mairie qui a brulé en 1711. Là se tenaient des réunions pour le commerce et pour les informations locales. Derrière se dresse la tour scintillante connue sous le nom de «Exchange Place». Sa construction s’est achevée en 1984 et sa hauteur est de 155,5 mètres, ce qui la place à la douzième place des bâtiments les plus hauts de Boston.
