Back to school!

Students like to gather at the Boston Public Library, founded in 1848 and opened to public in 1854. It was the first free municipal library in the world. The “Bates Hall” reading room was named after Joshua Bates, a London banker who donated 50,000 dollars to the library to purchase the books. This room has interesting architectural details. It features a stunning wide arched ceiling with two domes at each end.

Wow, this is fantastic! If I have to spend time inside a library, I'd rather it be here! Also reminds me of Harry Potter!

Alex, be sure to check out the tip I left on this famous English newspaper's website (The Guardian). I hope it brings you a lot of new visitors. You deserve it!

The library is really awe-inspiring. I went there a few months ago. I think we sat at the table near the bottom right hand corner. Yup, that's the one! Excellent shot!

For everyone else, the statue heads that surround this particular room are incredible, too.

Hey Alex! How come I never knew you were HERE? LOL! I was in Boston waaaaaaaaaaay back in 1987...helping a girlfriend get settled and ready to go to Boston College. We had a blast driving all around the city...got lost looking for a HoJo's that was right above our noses on a turnpike--we drove around it (it sat in the center of an off/on-ramp) about 6 times! LOL! Anyway, beautiful library shot...I looooooove libraries...so many books and soooooooo much quiet! I'll be back! (=

I am glad you liked this beautiful and inspiring place.
I agree with you all, the glass green lampshades give a nice touch and, good point Michael, the whole thing remind us the Harry Potter's atmosphere.
Yes indeed, Latecia there are no computers in that room, only laptops used by the public and tons of books :-)
For sure, studying in such a nice setting becomes a real treat. Vive les études!

You have a great site, and I see many of my blogger friends have also found you. This photo is outstanding, esp. with the repetitious green shades.
